We are Furhateers: a passionate group of scientists and explorers, on a mission to truly understand humans and to create more humane technology

Our story

The adventure started over 10 years ago as part of a research project

And since that moment, we have endeavored to grow our product, our team and our community with the purpose of redefining technology as we know it. Explore the timeline below to learn more about our defining moments.

2011

The first Furhat prototype was built

Furhat’s humble beginnings date back to 2011, where a robotics prototype was built to enable research into social robotics as part of founder & CEO Samer Al Moubayed’s PhD project.

2014

The birth of Furhat Robotics

A mere three years since the first prototype was built, the company was formed. The founders set out with an ambitious vision; Furhat Robotics was going to be the world’s most advanced social robotics & conversational AI platform.

2016

The Furhat community grows

The first 20 customers acquire their Generation 1 Furhat robots. Starting out with Disney Research as our very first early adopter, the likes of Honda, KMPG, Merck, Deutsche Bahn and world-renowned Universities & research labs followed suit.

2017

Furhat Robotics raises $2.5m in a seed round

Two of Europe’s most active early-stage venture capital investors injected funding in a seed round. Balderton Capital and LocalGlobe VC, long-obsessed with the development of Human-Robot Interaction, propel the growth of the company.

2018

Launch of the Gen 2 Furhat robot

After a much anticipated wait, the second generation Furhat was announced to the world, live at Web Summit in Lisbon.

2019

Commercial projects go live

Early innovation projects are tested in live environments, ranging from robot concierges in German airports to unbiased recruiting in Sweden

The SDK becomes freely accessible

The global pandemic brought a halt to physical interactions, so in order to help house-bound robotics enthusiasts the SDK became accessible to all, without charge
